Wilhelmina “Minnie” Van Den Top, age 91, passed away Friday, September 02, 2011 at Dougherty Hospice House. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton with burial following at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, IA. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
Minnie was born February 21, 1920 in Canton, SD to George & Wilma (Zielstra) Burgers. She married Dick Van Den Top on April 2, 1940 in Inwood, IA. The couple farmed in the Canton vicinity until Dick’s retirement in 1983. Dick died in 2002.
Minnie was a farm wife who also worked for S.D. Department of Social Service for 10 years. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading, word puzzles, traveling, and sharing Dutch heritage with her grandchildren. She and Dick also enjoyed wintering in Texas for several years.
Grateful for sharing Minnie’s life are her sons, Gerrit (Irene), Early, IA, George (Cheryl), Doon, IA, and Melvin, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Elizabeth (Ward) Twedt, Canton, SD, Wilma (Gary) Romereim, Canton, SD, Carol (Jet) Hieronymus, Mountain City, TN, and Marlene (Jim) Aasheim, Canton, SD; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, George (Marge) Burgers, Inwood, IA; sisters, Jenny (Clinton) Clark, Clark, SD; Grace Boeve, Luverne, MN, and Wilma (Jim) Koedam, Doon, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Bertha, Tillie, and Nellie; and brothers, Neal and Weber.
