Mildred “Millie” Fossum, age 87, died Friday, October 25, 2013 at Dougherty Hospice Cottage. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 28 at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Canton. Visitation, with family present, will be Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the church. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m.
Millie was born October 25, 1926 in Dell Rapids, SD to John and Mary (Mairose) Lickteig. She attended school at Dell Rapids St. Mary’s. She married Warren Fossum on June 8, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived on farms near Harrisburg and north of Canton. The couple moved to Canton in 1976. Millie had lived at Dougherty Hospice Cottage since March 2013. Warren died on March 21, 1986.
In addition to raising her children, Millie had worked at Otis Radio, Canton Good Samaritan Society, and McCords/Behr. She enjoyed crocheting, bingo, taking care of her grandkids, and watching her grandkids activities.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children- Marcia (Jerome) Engelhaupt, Spencer, NE, Jay (Roxie) Fossum, Canton, SD, Diana (Monte Miller) Fossum, Canton, SD, Paula Fossum, Sioux Falls, SD, and Perry (Barb) Fossum, Canton, SD; brother, Julius Lickteig, CA; 7 grandchildren- Sara Engelhaupt, Brad Hewer, Kennedy and Madison Fossum, Ashley Murphy, Kirby Christensen, and Chris Kott; and 3 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, Arnold, Florian, and Virgil, and 1 grandson.
