Lucas Gerald Bryson passed away peacefully and in the arms of his parents on November 5, 2017 at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Lucas was born on February 9, 2015 to Trevor and Alli Bryson. Lucas had a condition known as “Hydranencephaly” which was suppose to give him certain “odds at life” and a poor outlook. Those who knew him know he never let those odds or limitations define who he was. His infectious smile could light up a room. His determination, strength, and will to face any hardship life threw at him was admirable; and that is what he will be remembered for most.
He loved his big brothers Ryan and Beau, listening to music, sitting and soaking up the sun, and being snuggled in the arms of his parents. He will be missed by his family more than words could ever express; but he leaves behind a legacy of life and love and has made an impression on the hearts of many.
Grateful for having shared Lucas’ life are: his parents, Trevor and Alli; brothers, Ryan and Beau; paternal grandparents, Karla Bryson and Doug (Christy) Bryson; maternal grandparents, Gerald (Becky Zeilstra) Boyer and Jodi (Doug) McManigal; paternal great-grandmother, Shirley Van De Pol; maternal great-grandparents, Lee and Carolyn Boyer and Virginia Weber; two uncles, Nicholas Bryson and his children, Trigg, Lora, and Axsa and Doug (Carissa) Bryson, Jr. and their children, MacKenzie and Nathaniel; many other extended family; and special god-parents, Kathy Johnson and Daniel and Stacy Brown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 10, at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Canton with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church, with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, Ronald McDonald House, 200 University Ave., St. Paul, MN 55101 or Ava’s Hospice House, 1320 W 17th ST, Sioux Falls, SD 57117.
Little Lukey was such a bright and shining light, not only to our family, but to everyone that he ever met. He was such a blessing. Much love and prayers to you Trevor, Alli, Ryan,& Beau
Dear Lukeys family, you are forever in my thoughts and prayers. Lukey will always have a special place in my heart and my very being. Mary K. Tomshack (Sandy Hanson is my daughter)
My heart goes out to you. I also lost my son and I know your heartbreak. I have followed your story and have prayed for Lucas and your family. I am so sorry for your loss.
I do not know your family, But my aunt Barb was at Ava’s house with your son. She passed away late Friday November 3rd. The party you had for your son was amazing. I’m sure he brought many smiles to your family as he did for us that night.
May God give you peace and comfort during this time and you have my deepest condolences.

I cannot even imagine the road that you and your family are having to face, and I am so deeply sorry for the passing of your sweet boy. I have been following your sons journey on FB and he was such an inspiration of strength, courage, and hope. I am so very sorry, this just breaks my heart. I pray that God gives you peace, comfort and some sort of understanding in a time such as this. Lucas was a fighter, and in my book he won whatever “odds” they gave him. He will greatly and forever be missed. God Bless you and your family.
Trevor and All our hearts dropped when Cole called to tell me of the passing of Lucas. Though we never had the pleasure of knowing your son we know you Trevor and if he was YOU he was everything. May you kids find peaceful thoughts in the days ahead and rest assure you will see him again.
Trevor, Alli, Beau, and Ryan,
I’ve been thinking about you all over the last few weeks. Praying that God gives you the strength to overcome the pain and to help rejoice and celebrate Lucas and his time here on Earth. I knew Lucas in a different way then most but I can agree his smile was contagious and he brightened my days! Lucas was a fighter and he was blessed with strong parents and a family that loved him unconditionally! A family who fought for him and encouraged him every step of the way. I know this time is hard and the pain is there but do know that he is now with God and he is safe and not in pain. Know that he’ll be waiting for you and watching over the boys, guiding and protecting them. Please let me know if you need anything at all! I will continue to pray for strength and courage during this difficult time. God Bless!
