Lois Ulrickson

Visitation: Visitation, with family present, will be Friday, May 2 from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.  

Service: Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Canton Lutheran Church.

Lois Irene Laackmann was born at home in Rock County, MN to Herman and Fern (Hawes) Laackmann on July 26, 1930. She died April 27, 2025, at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home under hospice care.

She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Jasper High School in 1948. Lois graduated from the Sioux Valley Hospital nursing program becoming an RN in 1951. She met her husband, Robert Ulrickson, at a dance in Sioux Falls. The couple married in 1952 and moved to the Ulrickson family homestead where they farmed for 38 years. Lois worked as a nurse for many years at the Canton Hospital and Good Samaritan Center, and as a school nurse and in public health. They had two children, Theresa and David. Lois was delighted when she became a grandmother to Hillary, Tanner and Casey and again when she took on the title of great grandmother to Daveney and Silas. She loved her family.

Lois was very artistic and loved arts and crafts such as painting, sewing, and crocheting. She also loved music and played her keyboard often. She was involved in various organizations throughout her life serving in various capacities. She was a member of Lands Lutheran Church and later Canton Lutheran Church, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, Lincoln Co. Home Extension, 4-H, RSVP, the Kinship program, Canton Senior Center and donated her time to many organizations. Lois and Bob spent many of their retirement years traveling in their RV across the US until Bob’s death in 2005.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, her grandson Casey Bonhorst, her sister Carol and her brother Marvin, niece Beth Hoyme, great niece Serena Franken and special friend Marlin Anderson.

Lois is survived by her children, Theresa (Duwayne Bonhorst) and David (Linette); her grandchildren, Hillary (Luke Dingledine) and Tanner; her great grandchildren, Daveney and Silas; her sisters, Erna Christensen and Shirley (Garry) Hoyme;  and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Canton Lutheran Church.  Visitation, with family present, will be Friday, May 2 from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.   Memorials may be given in Lois’s memory to the Canton Senior Center or the Canton VFW Auxiliary.
