Brandt, SD- Leland Gordy, 68, formerly of Canton, died unexpectedly in a Victorville, CA hospital while visiting his daughter. His memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15, at Canton United Methodist Church, with inurnment at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Leland was born November 11, 1946 in Canton, SD to Leuis and Helen (Armstrong) Gordy. He attended school in Canton, graduating in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1965, beginning a 20 year career. Serving as an aircraft mechanic, he was stationed in Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, New Mexico and California. Following his retirement as a master SGT in 1985, he lived in California. He moved to Canton in 1991 and to Brandt, SD in 1993, where he was currently living. Leland was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and wildlife photography.
Leland is survived by 2 daughters- Lesley McConnell (Scott Windham), Hesperia, CA and Helen Margaret (Matt) Miller of Elma, WA; 2 grandchildren- Davey and Melody; brother, Ron Gordy, Canton; sisters- Rhonda Gordy (Nancy Stonefield- a dear friend Leland considered as a sister), Sioux Falls and Mona (John) Gorman, Canton; aunts, Grace Feller, Canton, Alice Ramstad, Willard, MO, and Pearl World, Salt Lake City, UT; many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Steve Berndt and his family.
