Jarrod Edward Hill, age 52, passed away with family by his side on Friday, August 30th, 2024 after his courageous ten-year fight with cancer.

Jarrod was born on October 14, 1971 at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri to parents Kathy (Sievers) and Merle Wiarda. He returned to South Dakota with his parents in 1972. Their marriage dissolved in 1973. Kathy later married Ron Hill who adopted Jarrod in 1976. Thereafter, he grew and was raised in a blended family of six in Canton where he graduated high school in 1990.  Jarrod was baptized and confirmed in Canton Lutheran Church.

In June of 1993, Jarrod married Susan Steensland. They established a home in Canton and welcomed two sons, Sawyer and Dawson. Though this relationship wasn’t permanent, they remained friends afterward.

Jarrod met Taylor Galarnyk in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and they married on October 1, 2016. They welcomed two children, son Henry and daughter Hazel, during their time together.

Prior to becoming disabled, Jarrod held careers in HVAC, commercial sales and as a convenience store owner. Most recently, he cherished his time as a stay-at-home dad with his two youngest children. He loved hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycles, traveling and the Minnesota Vikings.

Known for his kind, loving, caring and humorous self, Jarrod lived a life full of passion. This often included a dose of adventure with a side of mischief. He held fast to his inner, playful child and was never one to shy away from a bear hug or a whisker rub. A gregarious man, Jarrod will forever be remembered for his million-dollar smile, unforgettable laugh and personality that drew people to him.

Jarrod is survived by his wife, Taylor; children Sawyer (Anna) Hill, Dawson Hill, Henry Hill, and Hazel Hill; parents Ron and Kathy Hill; sisters Randi Merrill, Ronda (Gary) Headrick, and Sara (Mark) Sipple; mother-in-law Toni Galarnyk, father-in-law Timothy Galarnyk and sister in-law Tessa Galarnyk and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his biological father, Merle Wiarda; grandparents Orval and Cathren Sievers, Cecil and Mary Ann Wiarda, Normand Hill and Pearl Hill; uncles Edward Sievers and John Sievers and aunt Dana Larsgaard.

A Celebration of Jarrod’s Life will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Canton Lutheran Church. Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service. Fellowship to follow at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Canton.

A future Celebration of Jarrod’s Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club, 828 Club View Lane, Altoona, Wisconsin 54720.
