Elaine “JoAnn” Eckert, age 89, died Monday, April 1, 2024 in Mitchell, SD.  Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.  Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service.

          JoAnn was born on July 7, 1934 in Woonsocket, SD to Alfred and Elsie (Rogers) Oe.  She graduated from St. Mary’s School in Aberdeen, SD.  She married John Victor Eckert on May 26, 1959 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD.  Through the years, the couple lived in various towns following John’s career in education.  JoAnn enjoyed crafting, crocheting, riding motorcycles, baking, and watching ME-TV.  After John’s retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling in their RV.

          She is survived by her children: Mark Stern, Allyn Campbell, Marlene Schmidt, John Eckert, and William Eckert; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa Kuckelburg; and numerous extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Keith A. Stern; daughter, Barbara Dupuy; great-grandson, Remmy Blom; brother, Ed Oe; and sisters, Mary Lou Schaible, Margaret Gisi, and Janice Johnson.
