Donna Stalheim, age 76, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Bethany Reformed Church in Canton, with burial at Romsdal Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hudson, SD. Donna Janet Stalheim was born on October 5, 1935 to Nels and Agnes (Undahl) Romereim in rural Beresford, SD. Donna attended Sundy Grade School and both Beresford and Canton High School. She graduated from Beresford High School in 1953. She graduated Nettleton Business College in 1954.
On June 25, 1955 she was united in marriage to Garry Marshall Stalheim at Romsdal Lutheran Church in rural Hudson, SD. Following their marriage, Donna was a homemaker while Gary worked the Romereim family farm in rural Hudson, SD. The family then moved to Canton, SD where Donna began her career for the State Of South Dakota in the Dept. of Social Services. Donna fulfilled various roles within this department over the next 30+ years. Upon retirement, she pursued various avenues of servicing her community through the local grade schools, head start programs, church administration, and transportation for special needs children.
Donna was a member of the Canton Redeemer Free Lutheran and was active in the Stephen Ministries, women’s church circle, bible study fellowship, Sons of Norway, and various community organizations.
Her retirement years were spent golfing, traveling, and sharing precious time in developing priceless memories with her children, grandchildren, and beloved husband.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1941, her father in 1980, brother Ralph Romereim in 2006, brother Lloyd Romereim in 2007, and her beloved husband Garry Stalheim in 2005.
Grateful for having shared her life are her 4 children and their spouses: Mark Stalheim of Tulsa, Ok, Marshall & Marian Stalheim of Sioux City, IA, Mick & Kathy Stalheim of Oviedo, FL, and Melinda & Keith Duclau of Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren: Chad, Jacob, Benjamin, Laura, Nicholas, Dylan, Carley, Lindsey, and Jordan Stalheim, Sarah & Josh Gorczynski, Rachelle & Ed McGill, Beau & Leigha Boback, Brooke Boback, and Edlund Jr. & Tawney Ellis; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Glenyta Hanson and Arlyce Stalheim, brothers-in-law Gayle & Joyce Stalheim, Glenn & Mary Jane Stalheim, brother-in-law Kenneth Voegeli; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
