Don Ovre, age 78, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 14, 2024 at his home in Larchwood, IA. Visitation, with family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2024 at Anderson Funeral Home, Canton, SD.
Don was born on November 23, 1945 in Canton, SD to John and Mary (Pullman) Ovre. He attended country school and Canton High School. He married Claylene Pruitt on August 9, 1973 in Canton, SD. The couple made their home south of Canton near Grand Valley before moving to the Pruitt family farm near Larchwood, IA.
Don farmed his entire life. When he wasn’t farming, he enjoyed shooting guns, tinkering in his shop, working on old cars and tractors, traveling, hunting prairie dogs, driving his golf cart, and going on 4-wheeler trips. In his younger years, he enjoyed country western dancing with Claylene.
Don will be remembered for being a strong-willed, hard-working man who loved his family deeply, especially his grandchildren.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 51 years, Claylene; daughter, Rhonda (Scott) Pearson; grandchildren, Randy “Otto” Arney and Courtney Arney (Thomas); great-grandchildren, Matteo Lankford-Arney (Angel) and Lyrica Arney; brother, Jerry (Judy) Ovre; sister-in-law, Karen Ovre; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Casey Arney; brother, John Ovre; and sister, Betty Quien.

I always thought of Donny as my big brother. If I got in trouble for something I did as a kid, I could count on Donny to stick up for me. That was just the kind of person he was. Grew up to be a man that had your back.
Don was a wonderful friend and will be missed so much. Thoughts and prayers to his family, especially Claylene.
