Service: Memorial services will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. A private family interment for Don and Lois will be held at a later date
Donald Nelson, 94, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Saturday, March 25 at Good Samaritan Luther Manor.
Donald Mathew Nelson was born April 14, 1928 in Canton, SD to Peter and Juanita (Swenson) Nelson. He graduated from Canton High School in 1946. He married Lois I. Kauffman on June 3, 1951. The couple farmed near Canton for over 50 years. They were active members of Canton United Methodist Church. After Don’s retirement from farming in 1998, they made their home in Sioux Falls and attended church at Asbury United Methodist Church. He and Lois moved to Good Samaritan Luther Manor in November 2017.
Don is survived by his two sons and their wives: Jeffrey and Cynthia, Douglas and Kathy, all of Sioux Falls. He was a devoted grandfather to Mathew Nelson and wife, Sara; Anna Suckow and husband, Brian; Peter Nelson and wife, Laurie; Rachel Junker and husband, Joshua. His eyes twinkled at the sight of his great-grandchildren: Mara, Austine, Nora, Elsie, Theodore, Edison and Collins. He is joined in Heaven by his beloved wife, Lois; parents, Peter and Juanita; siblings, Merle and Marjory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Good Samaritan Luther Manor.

I’m so very sorry, it is painful to lose a dear loved one. Just keep thinking of the glorious reunion with Lois, family and friends. Don was loved and he knew this. Hugs to you all.
