Deloris Ann Lavila Nelson , 82, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at Hudson Care and Rehab Center. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Canton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. Family will greet visitors from 6 to 8:00 p.m.
Deloris was born August 12, 1932 in Canton, SD to Fritz and Dora (Severson) Behring. She graduated from Canton High School in 1950 and later attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield. Deloris taught one year and held various office jobs.
She married Lester Nelson January 2, 1953. They made their home in Canton. Through the years, Deloris was a wife, mother, teacher, bookkeeper, factory worker, and antique dealer. In 1974, Deloris and Lester opened Nelson Antiques and Second Hand Store. They operated the store for twenty years, until Lester’s health began to fail. She was a life-long member at both Canton Lutheran Church and VFW Auxiliary #3164.
Deloris is survived by her children- Lowell (fiancé Lori Tran) Nelson, Canton and Lavila Nelson (Rod Shedenhelm) Sanborn, IA; Lori’s children- Bryce (fiancé Maryn Francis) Tran and Mason Tran; sister, Frances (Tom) Winter, Canton; sisters-in-law- Bonnie Behring, Mesa, AZ and Harriet Behring, Sioux Falls; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester (2003), brothers- Daniel and Arthur, and sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Paul Kroger.

I know how hard it is to lose a mother. My thoughts are with you all. I remember how Dolores worked on and helped me with the Nelson family tree. Lester was my first cousin. I have had a number of good times with both of them. But in this time of loss, I take strength in thinking about so many good memories. May God give you peace!
