David “Dave” L. Lovaas, age 79, died Sunday, July 21, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. Visitation, with family present, will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Midwest Honor Flight.
David was born on May 30, 1945 in Canton, SD to Elvin and Anna (Josal) Lovaas. He graduated from Canton High School in 1963. He proudly served his country during Vietnam in the 299th Combat Engineer Battalion. He married Marjorie Durand on September 21, 1990 in Fairbault, MN.
David spent 38 years driving truck for Fairway Foods. When he wasn’t trucking, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, telling stories, being outdoors and serving others at the Banquet. Dave was a kind man who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition, he was a member of the Canton American Legion.
Dave is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marge; daughters, Tonya (Todd) Falkenstein, Shelley Lovaas, and Tina (Nate) Crawford; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Curly Knorr; along with numerous extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Traci Lovaas; granddaughter, Alexis Lovaas; grandson, Tanner Lovaas; sisters, Sonja Knorr, Nila Hamburg, Lillian Jervik, and Alice Leimbach; and twin brother, Don Lovaas.

My heart breaks for the entire family. Dave was such a wonderful person, and always made sure to check on people and their families. He will be greatly missed, but I know he will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Hi Marge, I am sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He was always a favorite growing up on the farm as kids. It was always nice to see you guys these past few years at our family gatherings.
I spoke with Dave when he was in the hospital up in Minnesota recently.
