Service: His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, at Shalom Lutheran Church in Harrisburg. Burial and Military Rites will precede the funeral service at Forest Hill Cemetery near Canton at 9:30 a.m..
Harrisburg. Dale E. Severson, 82, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society in Canton. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Shalom Lutheran Church in Harrisburg. Burial will precede the funeral service at Forest Hill Cemetery near Canton at 9:30 a.m.
Dale Eugene Severson was born April 9, 1931 on the family farm near Canton, SD to Adolph and Thelma (Ugland) Severson. He attended country school and Canton High School. He farmed with his dad before enlisting in the US Air Force in 1951. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953 as a Senior Airman.
Dale was united in marriage to Delores Lustfield June 15, 1953 in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple made their home and raised their six children on a farm near Harrisburg. He semi-retired from farming in 1998, and continued helping on the farm until 2010. He also worked at the Harrisburg Elevator. Dale enjoyed buying and selling cars and carpentry. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
Dale is survived by his wife of 60 years, Delores; daughters- Lorrie (Dan) Boyer, Canton, Vicki (Darwin) Reiners, Worthing, and Gail (Dale) Kroger, Canton; sons Randy (Linda) Canton, LeRoy, Harrisburg, and Brad (LuAnn) Canton; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters- Lois Weisenbach, Sioux Falls and Theola Parke, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Arnold, Donald, and Sylvester, and 2 sisters, Eleanor Helgeson and Arlys Wiebe.
My thoughts are with you, Del and kids. He’s left many wonderful memories with me. I know how much you’ll miss him.
I will always remember Uncle Dale smiling, laughing, and telling the most horrendous jokes! We all will miss him, wish I could be there.
