Service: Friends will gather from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton to celebrate his life, with a service of remembrance and prayers beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Claude Hignite Sr., 86, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Ashland, KY, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

He was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Ashland, to the late Franklin T. and Mary Marcum Hignite.

He is survived by his son, Claude Jr. and wife, Jeanette; daughter, Donna Sparks and husband, Bill; sisters, Yvonnia Dickison, Marlene Ettinger, and Lucille Johnson; grandsons, Stephen Burkhart, Travis and Brandon Hignite; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Smith Hignite; a grandson, Paul D. Burkhart; nine brothers; and three sisters.

Claude will be lovingly remembered by the family of his dear friend, Polly Olson, who died in 2010.

Friends will gather from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton to celebrate his life, with a service of remembrance and prayers beginning at 7:00 p.m.  His cremains will be interred in the Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, S.D.
