Lanny Ray Kinnander, age 81, died Sunday, September 29, 2024, surrounded by his family at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Lands Lutheran Church, Hudson, SD. Visitation, with family present, will be Friday, October 11 from 5-7 pm at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.
Lanny was born on February 22, 1943, to F. Ray and Verval (Heck) Kinnander. He grew up on a farm in Armstrong, IA, where he attended Armstrong Community Schools. He was a good athlete and enjoyed theatre while in high school – even starring in a couple of school plays.
He graduated from high school at Armstrong in 1961 and Morningside College, Sioux City, IA, in 1965. While attending Morningside, he met the love of his life, Louise Sandvig. The first day they met he told her he was going to marry her, and he did! They were married on December 27, 1964. Lanny was a salesman, so they lived in many places, including Michigan, Iowa, Colorado, and eventually moved back to Louise’s hometown of Canton, SD. Their union blessed them with three daughters, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Lanny was beloved by all who knew him! He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, telling jokes, and watching just about any sport. He especially loved attending his grandchildren’s activities, spending time with family and friends, and wintering in Sun City, AZ. He will be remembered for his humor, unbelievable kindness and generosity, and his love for his family.
Lanny is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Louise; daughters, Tatia (Mario) Gonzalez, Kimberly (Patrick) Kennedy, and Colleen (Greg) Feltman; grandchildren, Andrew (Dania) Estabrook, Zack Estabrook, Evan Kennedy, Jenna Eilers, Sophia Gonzalez, and Zane Gonzalez; four great-granddaughters; and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, F. Ray and Verval Kinnander; brother, Don Kinnander; sister-in-law, Bonnie Erickson; brothers-in-law, Robert Bergren and Edward Sandvig; nephew, Todd Bergren; and niece, Amy Hedstrom.
So sorry for your loss. We were neighbors for a number of years and thought a lot of all of you. We will keep your family in our prayers.
Doug and I are sorry to hear this Prayers and hugs for you Louise and family❤️
I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and father and grandpa. I have visited Louise and Lanny several times while visiting with my brother and his wife in Sun City. It was within walking distance and I would go over there every time I was there. They always welcomed me in to their beautiful home and we’d visit about our days at Lands growing up and the fact that the Sandvigs were very good friends of the Hagens throughout our childhood. My sympathy to the family.
No words can express how sorry we are for your loss. Losing Lanny isn’t easy, it’s never easy to lose someone you love. We are blessed because we were able to share in his life. Our families have many fun memories of the times we spent together from as far back as college days. Much love to all of you. Rest in peace Mr. K.
Our thoughts and prayers, and hearts are with you all. Unfortunately we are unable to be at Lanny’s memorial service. We have wonderful memories of the times we have spent with Lanny and most recently getting to visit with he and Louise in Canton and Minneapolis. May your memories give you love and peace of this Dear father and husband !
