Karen Joyce Plucker, age 74, died Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Sanford USD Medical Center. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024 at Canton United Methodist Church, Canton, SD. Visitation, with family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.
Karen was born on June 19, 1950 in Canton, SD to LeRoy and LaVonne (Weeg) Short. She grew up in Canton where she attended country school before graduating from Canton High School in 1968. She married Elroy Plucker on December 23, 1969 in Canton. The couple made their home in Canton where they were blessed with 3 daughters, Sheila, Steph, and Shawna.
Through the years, Karen worked at Otis Radio, Fastek, K-Products, Quarry-Stone Greenhouse, and the Garden of Eat’n. She also ran a daycare for many years and helped Elroy at the city rubble site. Karen enjoyed gardening, shooting fireworks, baking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Karen is survived by her children, Sheila Plucker (Dan Johnson), Steph Schuttloffel (Brian Jennings), and Shawna Plucker (Brian Sehr); grandchildren, Kelly Bartels, Britni Plucker, Morgan Plucker, Christopher Schuttloffel, and A.J. Otten; brothers, Bruce (Amy) Short and Tim (Gloria) Short; sisters, Marlyce (Bob) Harris, Jackie (Doug) Glenn, Lori (Jeff) Davelaar, and Janel (Fred) Kaltenbach; sister-in-law, Lynn Short; along with numerous extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and LaVonne; husband, Elroy; grandson, Levi Bartels; brother, Terry Short; and special in-laws, Ardie and Denny Fossum.
Thoughts and prayers to you girls and your families. Karen is going to be missed by many. May God wrap his loving arms around you all and give you the strength to get through this difficult time. May he also give you peace and comfort.
