Visitation, with family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2024 at Redeemer Free Lutheran Church, Canton, SD. A service will be held at 7:00 p.m. The family requests attendees wear their favorite ball cap and/or fishing shirt. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hawarden Boy Scouts.
Mason was born on September 24, 2009 at Sanford in Sioux Falls, SD to Jeffrey and Cassandra (Orrick) Long. Mason lived most of his life in Fairview, SD. He was currently a student at Canton Middle School, a member of the Hawarden Boy Scouts, and worked part-time at the Canton Dairy Queen
Mason had a real passion for life and always found joy in his favorite hobbies, fishing and scouting. He just loved spending time by any river, waiting patiently for the fish to bite. When he wasn’t casting his line, he enjoyed treating himself to his favorite snacks from Dairy Queen. Whether it was a refreshing ice cream cone or a delicious blizzard, he always savored every bite.
In addition to his love for the outdoors and sweet treats, Mason had a diverse taste in music. He found real joy in listening to country music and rap, appreciating the unique rhythms and lyrics of his favorite bands and artists. Those who knew Mason remember him as an ambitious, caring, and kind-hearted person. He really had a genuine love for others and always went out of his way to lend a helping hand.
Mason’s cheerful presence and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn his passing, let’s remember the joy he brought into our lives and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind.
Grateful for sharing his life are his parents, Jeff and Cassandra; brother, Trent; sister, Natalia; grandma, Deborah Long; great-grandparents, Craig (Rita) Vrabel; aunts, Julie (Bernie) Knight and Nicki Moat; uncle, Jon (Megan) Orrick; cousins, Trevor Knight (Hailey Walker), Trey Knight and Sammie Moat; along with numerous extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jon (Kathy) Orrick and Bobbie Long; and cousin, Troy Roof-McGuire.
Mason was a wonderful kid, he was so nice and funny to talk to. He was somebody who feels like a friend. He had so much potential and I hope he’s doing well in the afterlife. He deserved to be allowed to live longer. I will miss him. I feel bad for all his family and his close friends. He will be missed.
