Deloris Stengel, age 94, died on Friday, October 6, 2023, at her home in Canton. She was under hospice care. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2023 at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD. Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service.
Deloris Grace “Babe” Stengel was born on July 31, 1929, to Severt and Lydia (Weber) Eli. She graduated from Canton High School in 1947.
She married Harold Stengel on May 10, 1954, in Rushmore, MN. To this union four children were born, David, Ronald, Marlys, and Sherry.
Although she had a few different jobs in her lifetime, one being a waitress at Lena’s Café, probably one of her favorite jobs was babysitting. Deloris loved children and treated them all like they were her own.
In her later years, Deloris developed many health problems, one of the worst being dementia. Our once fun-loving, laughing, and talkative mom gradually became someone who was quiet and withdrawn.
Deloris is survived by her children, David Stengel, Livonia, MI; Ronald Stengel, Canton, SD; Marlys (Henry) VanDeKieft, Canton, SD; Sherry Stengel, Canton, SD; two granddaughters, Tiffany VanDeKieft, Canton, SD and Melanie (Kory) King, Fruitland Park, FL; and two great granddaughters, Chloe and Ellie King; as well as many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, one brother, Cliff Minor, and two sisters, Wava Fay Minor and Alice Aurit.
