Grace was born on March 15, 1930 in Dell Rapids, SD. She graduated from Dell Rapids High School and later earned a nursing degree from Sioux Valley Nursing School. She married Herb Ulrikson on December 1, 1950. They lived and raised their three children, Bryan, Scott, and Deb on a farm south of Canton. The couple moved into Canton in 2008.
In addition to raising her family and being a farmer’s wife, Grace worked as a nurse at the Canton nursing home for 21 years. She retired in 1992.
Grace had the gift of gab and loved to talk to anyone that would listen. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, watching and feeding birds, and making Lefsa and chocolate chip cookies. She played in a pinochle group for many years and also enjoyed eating lunch with the retired nurses group. Above all else, she loved her family. She cherished time spent with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a long-time member of Lands Lutheran Church where she was active in various church groups.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Bryan (Karen) Ulrikson & Deb (Dave) Zelmer; grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Ulrikson, Jared (Melissa) Ulrikson, Sarah (Nate) Wek, Adam Zelmer, & Ryan (Sarah) Zelmer; great-grandsons, Jacoby, Abram, Kaedrick, and Kohen Ulrikson, and Braxan and Jordy Wek; great step-granddaughter, Kierra (Kaison) Thies; and great-great step-grandsons, Krew and Koyer Thies; sister, Audrey Peterson; sister-in-law, Lois Ulrickson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Herb; her parents; son, Scott; brothers-in-law, Robert Ulrickson, Donald Ulrikson, and Richard Peterson; sister-in-law, Hazel Ulrikson; and half-brother-in-law, Merle Mikelson. www.andersonandsonsfh.com
I loved visiting with Grace when I went to Lands. She was always a very interesting lady who enjoyed speaking to everyone and she was such a good worker in the church!! My sympathy at the loss of a special lady!
Grace was a lovely, gracious lady. She was my mom’s neighbor across the hall while living at the Heights. Grace always had a smile to share.
She will be missed by many.
God bless her memory.
