Betty J. Tanck, age 90, died Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at her home in Sioux Falls surrounded by her family. Private family services will be held.

Betty was born on June 14, 1933, in Volga, SD, to Ervin and Anne (Nussbaum) Bothe. She grew up on a family farm in rural Aurora, SD, graduated from Flandreau High School in 1951, and later earned a teaching certificate from General Beadle State Teachers College in Madison, SD. She married Charles “Chuck” Tanck in 1951. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Cathy.

In addition to raising her daughter, Betty taught school, worked at the Flandreau Medical Clinic, and, together with Chuck, operated the family furniture store, Chuck’s Furniture, in Sioux Falls, for over forty years. She and Chuck were pleased to meet many good friends along the way. 

Grateful sharing her life are her husband of 71 years, Chuck; daughter, Cathy; sister-in-law, Judy Bothe; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Darrel; her grandparents, Martin and Cecilia Nussbaum and Fred and Hilda Bothe; and life-long friends, Ole and Dorothy Hamran.
