Jean was born on July 1, 1933 in Scunthorpe, England to John A. and Dorothy (Miller) Oades. She grew up on an acreage filled with animals near Scunthorpe. During WWII, she remembered hiding in her basement during the German bombing raids but being more afraid of the spiders in her basement than the bombs.
Jean obtained a nursing degree from the Manchester School of Nursing. She also became certified as a midwife and in the care of premature babies. She began her career as a nurse and midwife at Grimsby General Hospital in Wales.
She married Alfred “Bud” ‘Monen on April 27, 1958 in Lincolnshire, England. The couple moved around the United States following Alfred’s military career before settling in Canton, SD. After moving to Colorado for a short time, the family returned to Canton.
In addition to raising her sons, David and Timothy, Jean work for many years as a nurse at the Canton-Inwood Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to auctions, collecting treasures, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a giving woman.
Grateful for sharing her life are her son, David; grandchildren, Anna Marie, Jennifer, Rachel, and Jackie; great-grandchildren, Grahm, Leo, Joel, Jayda, Thea, Grayson, and Sariah; along with numerous extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Timothy; and sister.
