Judy Ann (Halvorson) Hemmingson was born on June 3, 1943 to Ann Johneva (Welde) and Ole Halvorson in Canton, SD. She attended school in Canton, graduating from CHS in 1961. After attending Nettleton Commercial College, she worked at the telephone office in Canton. HS
She married Vernon Robert Hemmingson on May 24, 1964. They were blessed with two sons, Gregory and Keith. The couple lived south of Canton until the spring of 1969 when they moved to an acreage south of Worthing, SD. Judy remained on the farm after Vernon passed away in November of 1999. In the spring of 2004, she moved into Canton where she was the volunteer coordinator of Siouxland RSVP for Lincoln and Union County.
Over the years, she considered herself fortunate to work in several different businesses in the area and enjoyed her many contacts with the people. Her sons and their wives brought her so much joy, but her grandchildren were the lights of her life. Her Grand Valley Church family held a very special place in her heart and she was able to take part in services for many years as one of the organists. Judy also enjoyed making flower arrangements and wreaths.
Judy is survived by her sons, Greg (Penny) Hemmingson, Worthing, SD and Keith (Lisa) Hemmingson, Canton, SD; grandsons, Jacob and Isaac; sisters, Susan Halvorson and Nancy (Roy) Waltner; along with numerous extended relatives, Grand Valley Church family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Vernon. www.andersonandsonsfh.com

Hemmingson Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I’m thinking of you all as you go through this journey. Judy was a most pleasant woman and always smiled. Jacob and Isaac, I know you were loved by your grandma and hope you have wonderful memories to carry in your heart. That’s what grandmas hope for, that the memories carry on. Many hugs to you all.
I am sorry to hear of Judy’s passing. I have many fond memories of her at Grand Valley and visiting with her family.
