Wava Eiesland, age 91, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at her home near Canton, SD. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 10 at Canton Lutheran Church, with burial to follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Harrisburg, SD. Wava was born near Shindler, SD on November 21, 1919 to Samuel and Dora (Rueleke) McCain. Her family moved to the Worthing, SD area where she attended school and graduated from high school. On January 6, 1940, she was married to her partner in life, Alden Eiesland. They lived in Sioux Falls, SD for a time and moved to a farm near Inwood, IA. From there they moved to a farm just north of Canton, SD where they resided and raised their family. Wava worked for Amundson Dry Goods as a drapery seamstress, for Donahue’s Furniture store as the head of the drapery department, and at Rich Brothersin Sioux Falls.
After she retired to her present home near Canton, she spent time in her rose garden nurturing the flowers she loved so dearly and sewing quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Wava is survived by her children, De Loris (George) Gulson, Sioux Falls, SD, Linda Stensland, Annapolis, MD and Thomas (JoAnn) Eiesland Canton, SD; grandchildren, James Gulson, Sioux Falls, Kristen Cudmore, Council Bluffs, IA, Joseph Stensland, Annapolis, MD, Brian (Heather) Stensland, Sioux Falls, Samuel Eiesland, Canton, Mariah Eiesland, Sturgis, SD, and Christopher McFarland (Jayme), Minneapolis, MN; great-grandchildren, Dylan Gulson, Keegan Cudmore, Jack Stensland, Samuel Stensland, Bergen Stensland, Elle McFarland and Lincoln McFarland; and four beloved caregivers, Linda Fossum, Lynne Lembke, Cindy Teach, and Diana Ashworth.
Wava was preceded in death by her husband Alden Eiesland, her parents, and eleven brothers and sisters.
