Art Henke, age 92, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society Canton. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Canton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.
Arthur John Henke was born June 7, 1925 to Arthur G. and Clara Henke. His family farmed near Tinley Park, Illinois. Art attended country school for Grades 1-8. He graduated from Thornton High School. Art loved sports and played baseball for many years. Beginning when he was a teen, Art bowled on one or more leagues every week, rolling his last game at 91 years old. He was joined in marriage to Shirley Nelson on June 7, 1947. Art and Shirley welcomed three children Bruce, Barbara, and Bonnie. He was a lifelong farmer, first in Illinois and later in South Dakota. After retiring, he mowed and played golf at Springcreek, Westward Ho and Elmwood Golf Courses. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting or school events and was always their most supportive fan.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Shirley, son Bruce (Janet) Henke and daughter Bonnie (Sam) Britt. His grandchildren are Ted Hansen, Tina (Brad) Jarecki, Tom (Kara) Henke, Barbara Henke (Derek Sahr), and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Barbara Ellen, brother Howard and sister Elaine Schluter.
