Vivian Fossum, age 79, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Sanford Foundation Hospice. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 20 at Grand Valley Lutheran Church, rural Canton, SD. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m., family present 4-6 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.
Vivian was born on May 30, 1936 in Lennox, SD to Peter & Eva (Fokken) Gayken. She graduated from Worthing High School in 1954. She then attended 1 year at Nettleton Business College. She married Carroll Fossum on November 5, 1956 at Grand Valley Lutheran Church near Canton, SD.
After Carroll was drafted into the service, the couple made their home in Las Cruces, NM where Carroll was stationed. Vivian worked at the White Sands Missile Range during this time. Following his discharge, the couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1958, a farm west of Canton in 1969, and finally into Canton in 2009.
Vivian worked for the Sioux Valley News from ’72-‘74, Canton High School from ’74 – ‘82, the Lincoln County Probation Office from ’82 – ‘84, Rudolph & Bogue Law from ’84 – ‘86, and was in the Lincoln County Clerk of Courts Office from ’86- ’00, the last seven years as the Clerk of Courts.
She enjoyed cross stitching, reading, WELCA, and most importantly her grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 58 years, Carroll; son, Scott (Sonya) Fossum, Mitchell, SD; and grandchildren, Christian and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Gloria McDermott.

I have so many memories of Vivian growing up in Worthing and later when Joan and Woody would do things with you and Vivian. Please pass on my sympathy to all of your family.
