Service: Honoring Evelyn’s wishes, no memorial or burial service will be held but her ashes will be buried next to her husband at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Evelyn A. Stengel, age 94, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society Canton.

Evelyn was born on December 18, 1919 in Sioux County, IA but grew up in South Dakota.  She attended country school and Augustana Academy.  She married Lyle Stengel on June 4, 1942 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI where her husband was stationed.  Upon his return from WWII, the couple began farming in South Dakota, moved to Missouri for several years, and then returned to South Dakota in 1979.

Evelyn was an active volunteer at the Canton Senior Citizens Center and was a board member for 18 years.  Her husband passed away in January of 1999.  Evelyn leaves no family but will be remembered by a host of friends.
