Mark Eiesland

January 25, 1952 - November 7, 2025

Service: A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Harrisburg Funeral Chapel, Harrisburg, SD.  Family will be present to greet visitors at 6:30 p.m.

Mark L. Eiesland, 73, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025 of natural causes.  A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Harrisburg Funeral Chapel, Harrisburg, SD.  Family will be present to greet visitors at 6:30 p.m.  A private family burial will take place at a later date in the Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Canton, SD.

Mark was born on January 25, 1952 to Vincent and Helen Eiesland in Canton, SD. He was the first born of nine children. He attended school in Canton, Hartford and Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High School in 1970. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1974 and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

Following graduation Mark worked for the United States Chamber of Commerce, and later in the insurance business.  He spent the last portion of his career as a super shoe salesman, often being the top salesman.

Those who knew Mark well will remember him for his love of singing and music, old movies, reading, baseball, motorcycles, cars, and racing.  He also loved writing letters and sharing favorite quotes. He had a beautiful tenor voice and enjoyed participating in the WSHS concert choir, All-State Chorus and in “Strollers” at USD. He sang with the Sioux Emperians Barbershop chorus and a quartet for many years. He had a tremendous ability to harmonize with others and often sang back up with local bands.

He was a quiet man but loved lively conversation about current events, stories, history, politics, and baseball. He was a Canaries fan and an avid New York Yankees follower, watching every game all season. He was a dapper dresser, often wearing sport coats and snazzy shoes.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Helen Eiesland; his brother Steve Eiesland; and brother-in-law Dr. Jerry Soderstrom.

Mark is survived by his seven siblings: Marlyce Buch, Highlands Ranch, CO; Shirley Soderstrom, Rapid City, SD; Becky (Rick) Pittenger, Fargo, ND; Joel (Patty) Eiesland, Brandon, SD; Jim (Suzy) Eiesland, Bob Eiesland, and Laura Eiesland (Mike Kassube), all of Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
